What is truth and to what extent can one determine the truth?

Truth is a very difficult word to define. Even so it is a concept that is very important to humans. We always ask whether something is true when given new information. No matter what definition I come up for the word “true” it will always fall prey to one question: “Is that definition true?” However, I’ll try my best to define “truth” based on how it is used in everyday life. Based on observation, truth is something that humans collectively choose to believe in because there is substantial evidence to prove that the subject warrants belief. People will not believe something is true unless there is evidence to support the claim and others who believe it. By observing the world around me, I have come to the conclusion that my definition of truth is correct.

People unknowingly prove my theory to be correct everyday. A good example of this is rumors. Although rumors are usually exaggerations, they become truths because people make them truths. A good example of this is when there was a rumor regarding Khloe Kardashian going around a few years ago. People were saying that she was actually O.J Simpson’s daughter instead of being Robert Kardashian’s daughter. The evidence that people had were pictures of Kris Kardashian being very comfortable with O.J Simpson and allegations that they were in a sexual relationship. Because of all the new evidence that came out people believed that Khloe Kardashian truly was O.J Simpson’s daughter. Among the people who accepted this as true there were some who blindly believed the rumor without even doing some research. That goes to show that it is easy to blindly believe things. An example of this can be seen in Cat’s Cradle, the Bokononists in the book ,especially the king’s daughter, blindly followed the religion without even bothering to question their customs, regardless of how foolish they were.

I do not blame those who blindly believe in things because “truth” can be deceitful. The only way to discover the truth is by investigating and answering your own questions. It is best to find a truth that satisfies you rather than looking for a truth that is universal because there will always be a dissenting party. Trivial matters such as civil disputes are easy to find evidence for, but complex matters such as life and values don’t have universal truths.
